WHAT'S YOUR NAME?
I recently had an event to attend so I decided to bring my wife along and mix business with a little pleasure. When we arrived at our destination, we headed to the hotel to drop off our things. As our normal custom, I drop her off at the front, park the car and grab the bags while she gets us checked in. Teamwork makes the dream work! However, once I got to the lobby, she informs me that she is not allowed to check us in because her name is not on the list. According to policy, the last name of the person checking in has to match the name on the reservation. Of course, it did. But, it turned out that the hostess denied my wife access because she misread my name.
Did you know that in Russian culture, children receive middle and last names after their father? In Spanish cultures, children have a first name followed by two last names. The first is usually the father's and the second is the mother's name. We are all given a name, but the part of our name that we inherit can carry much weight! As fathers, the first thing we are able to give to our children is our name. They come under our care, provision, and protection. Symbolically, we elect to take full responsibility for them. It’s an honor to be a father.
When we accept Jesus as Savior, God the creator becomes God, our Father. Not only does He adopt us into His family, but He also gives us His name! With His name comes power, authority, provision, honor, and more...and we get access to it all. Psalms 23:3 confirms, "He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake." God loves us dearly and responds to us for His namesake. The Bible records that He takes care of the lilies in the field and the birds in the air. We are no exception! It's His character and integrity that will not allow Him to leave or forsake His children. We can be confident that God elects to care for those who bare His name.
As a child of God, do you believe that God is committed to taking care of you?
