Identity Crisis

February 20, 2018

King David asked, “What is man that you are mindful of him?” Is it possible that God sees us in a way we struggle to see ourselves? While we look at the incomplete project, He, knowing the beginning from the end, sees the finished product. We tend to dwell on our flaws, our shortcomings, and our insecurities, but for some reason, God sees past all of it! How? And maybe even more importantly, WHY? God says that we are fearfully and wonderfully made. It appears the Creator is trying to relay a message to His creation.

There are many voices in this world and none of them are without significance. It is also important to note that anything that refutes or contradicts what God has said pertaining to us is a lie. It just so happens that the “father of lies” is Satan. Therefore, we must take heed to what we hear and to how we hear. Satan’s goal is to rob you of your identity, while God is committed to teach and remind you of your identity in Christ!

This clash creates a potential identity crisis! Are we simply sinners saved by grace or are we now the righteousness of God? The only way to truly understand our identity in Christ is through the word of God. The truth is that God has made us Kings and Priests; called to lead, not to be passive! We have been ordained as heirs of the kingdom of God and joint heirs with Jesus Christ! Once we receive Him, immediately, we can rest assured that our identity can be confirmed as children of God.

QUESTION:

Do you identify yourself as a child of God (why or why not)? As a father, how can you better help your children discover their identity in Christ?
